Jaguar Land Rover SVO eyes bespoke sports vehicle to rival Mercedes-AMG

Jaguar Land Rover’s special vehicle Operations (SVO) division, accountable for the new XE SV job 8, will develop its own bespoke designs in the future, according to brand manager John Edwards.
Rather than staying with improved versions of existing designs like F-Type-based job 7 as well as XE-based job 8, the SVO division will likewise target vehicles like the Mercedes-AMG GT by producing a totally unique sports vehicle of its own.

“Deep down we want to make our own model,” Edwards told auto Express. “Just look at  the success of the [Mercedes] AMG GT.”

Edwards emphasised the requirement for  SVO to get its early ‘Project’ vehicles right before embarking on standalone models, however. While it’s currently uncertain which JLR products  are next in line for the SVO treatment, Edwards explained that the Jaguar F-Pace as well as upcoming variety Rover Velar SUVs had “great potential”.
